Description
Coping stone that was part of the ornamentation of the palace of Motecuhzoma II in Tenochtitlan. The cubic shape and the design of the features distinguish it from the large number of stone snakeheads that have been found associated with the Templo Mayor building, which represents the ophidians realistically. This piece evokes the style that prevailed in Xochicalco, centuries before the development of the Mexica culture.
