Simply put, this is a filament guide for Prusa Printers, specifically for using large rolls of filament that cannot sit on top of the printer.

Most of the prints I design are generally on the larger side, but this is one of the few exceptions. However, it solves an issue I had for a large project that I am working on. I was using a lot of filament to test something and came across an opportunity to purchase a few rolls of 4Kg filament at a very low price. However, there is NO WAY I could (nor should) put 4Kg spool on top of my printer (besides, it wouldn't even fit.) Because of my setup, I could not place the spool behind the printer, so I have the spool sitting on my bench next to my printer.

Direct drive printers, such as the Prusa, work better with the filament coming straight down into the extruder. I needed a quick solution. So I created this. It worked for me so I thought I would make available for others. Just keep in mind that you will loose about 10mm of print height when this is attached.

The first image is a render done in Cinema4D with the Arnold renderer, the second picture is an actual print, and the third image is a render done within Fusion 360.

Print instructions

Using The gCode Files
This can be printed in any material, but I chose to include the gCode prepared for PETG. I did this because I wanted the part to match the orange PETG parts that are on my MK3S. If you want to print this in some other material, just use the included stl file.

Using The stl File
This stl file is orientated correctly for printing. As in most of my prints, this is designed to not use supports. I printed this with 20% infill and 0.20 layer height.

Installing The Guide
The filament guide is deigned to snap onto the top of the frame from the backside of the printer (please use the picture of the actual print above as a reference.) It has been designed to be a tight fit, and may require a little cleaning if you have elephant foot.

Again, please remember that this will lower your print height by about 10mm, so you will need to remove this guide if you are printing a very tall print.
