Based on different scientific papers I created this Savonius two blade shape wind turbine design. It is specifically designed to work well with low wind speeds coming from one direction.

The turbine needs a obstacle wall in front of the blade that comes back in order to increase momentum. I created a case for this turbine with obstacle and deflector walls as well as a wind tunnel. I will link to the files as soon as I have tested them.

Notes:

  • The blades are higher on the ends to compensate for the bending when fastening the brass nuts. Maybe some additional grind is required to get a perfect fit without unwanted blade bending.

Additional materials for this design:

  • 1 x T8 lead screw
  • 2 x brass nuts
  • 8 x M3 screws

Edit:

  • The design is to heavy for a light breeze. You need to reduce the fly wheel weight (bottom & top plate thickness) and also reduce the blade thickness - additionally you could print it with foam filament.
