A 3D printable robust and durable Micro/Needle File Handle, designed to accept a precision file with a 3 mm (~.118”) round tail.
The design can be easily 3D printed, without any support, on a smaller size hobbyist 3D Printer. It can be printed with a variety of materials, including PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA and many other types of printable materials.
Note that the design works well for my micro precision file set. Different manufacturers may have different file tail sizes. Therefore, please be aware that “your mileage may vary!”
PLA works well for this application as long as the parts will not be used, stored or kept in a high temperature environment, exceeding ~55 C (~ 130 F).
PETG is another excellent choices.
The object should be durable, easy to maintain, and last for a long time.
Recommended print settings with a .4 mm nozzle
- Layer Height: .2 mm
- 3 perimeters or shells (1.35 ~ 1.5 mm)
- 7 bottom layers (1.4 mm)
- 7 top layers (1.4 mm)
- Infill 15%~20%, depending on infill type
Note: Depending on your printer’s calibration , the filament tolerances and your particular micro file, the hole may need to be reamed slightly larger (3 mm or more) with an appropriate drill bit.
