Stellated octahedron, which is also called the stella octangula (eight-pointed star) is same as the face-centerd cubic lattice in material science. 
The face-centerd-cubic (FCC) lattice is a set of edge-sharing tetrahedra, the tetrahedron being the three-dimensional frustrating plaquette. FCC is one of the primitive cell of the geometrical spin frustration system.
