MagSafe Charging Stand

Cool iPhone charger for MagSafe compatible iPhones

Two options

Print the Base, Body, and Nut for a minimal stand that should work for all MagSafe iPhones. Assemble the base, and slip an Apple MagSafe charger in the back. Plug it and place the phone on the front of the stand and the phone's and charger's magnets will hold the phone in place.

For a more robust solution for iPhone 12/12Pro w/MagSafe case and similarly sized phones, the back of the body has slots for 4x M3 square nuts, and 3x M2.5 Heat-set threaded inserts. The Rim piece can optionally be attached to the charger body with 4xM3x12 cap-head screws. The Ring part will secure the MagSafe charger in place using 3x M2.5x5 screws

Notes

The threads on the body and the nut really need a layer height of 0.15 or finer.

The Base part needs supports. Don't necessarily worry about getting the ball meticulously clean of supports, a little residue will cause some friction in the socket which actually helps it hold. All other parts print without support

Bonus Feature

The ball joint used in the swivel is compatible with many “universal” in-car phone holders. If you have one of these there's a good chance you can upgrade to MagSafe Qi charging for your iPhone. Just remember: PLA can get melty in hot cars in places that have hot, sunny summers. Go with PETG or higher glass transition point plastics. The Rim and keeper ring are required for in-car use, as the magnets alone are not strong enough to hold the phone through typical bumps and vibrations when driving.
