I was checking out the existing docking stations for the Google Pixel 2 XL when I realised that none of them would fit my needs due to these points:

  • Some of them required having the Pixel 2 XL in a case which I never do.
  • The cable guides were badly designed and complicated.
  • For my personal taste, the docks were way to big and didn't look good.
  • The was no self-guidance on the USB Connector when putting the phone in the dock.

I therefore decided to come up with my own dock. This requires the original Google Pixel 2 XL charging cable. The main targets were to keep it minimalistic/small as possible, giving it a nice look and making a tight fit while still allowing the Pixel 2 XL to easily slide into the dock.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.15mm layer @ 60mm/s

Notes:

See images (Simplify3D Screenshot) for the proper orientation for printing. The angle of the phone in relation to the table is 10 degrees. This means in Simplify3D you have to set the X-Axis rotation to -80 degrees.

I went with 3 bottom layers, 5 top layers and 3 perimeters.

I have printed this in Prusa PETG with a 0.4mm nozzle with the extrusion width set to 0.44mm. I als tried different PLAs for testing, seems stable enough.

Post-Printing

Optional: Remove stringing

I used a hot air fan to remove the stringing which happened during the printing. This task is no mandatory and stringing heavily depends on the settings/materials you are using in your print. Only had to do this with PETG, no stringing with PLA.
