This roof slides onto a wooden birdhouse. It is attached from the back an has a hole to be hung to a screw or nail.

You can build multiple housings, feeders or decorative items that ca easyly be switched without removing the roof from its place.

The golden prototype is printed in PLA but for durability reasons I highly recommend PETG or other materials suitable for outdoor use.

The orange roof is Prusament PETG and was the second attempt with some minor design improvements.

Print instructions:

  • Print orientation is with screw hole on build plate
  • No supports needed
  • I highly(!) recommend using mouse ears or a strong brim to prevent the roof corners from warping. I still had some issues with that.
  • I used 25% infill
  • Print took about 11 hours with .4 nozzle and .2 layer height (feel free to improve)

House instructions:

  • I used 9mm plywood with a 40mm hole in the front
  • The top can be removed as it rests on the back wall an a small piece of wood attached to the front. I will probably secure it with a small screw
  • Dimensions (height x width x depth): 180mm x 124mm x 142mm
    • Front 124 x 180
    • Back 106 x 162
    • Sides 133 x 180
    • Bottom & top 106 x 133
    • Top rest 106 x 5
    • all at 9mm thickness
    • Please double-check measurements on your printed part
  • You need to mill a groove or cut it with a table saw to attach the roof starting from the back
    • 4mm width
    • 2mm depth
    • 95mm length
    • 16mm distance from the top
