I liked the simple yet effective design of TheKre8Groups' Another Filament Spool Holder.

My only issue with it was when using a spool of Makerbot ABS. the spool would wobble on the thin spindle. I wanted the spool to roll easily, with as little wobble as possible.
This remix of the spindle cuts it apart, and adds an insert so the two parts can be joined. I also added two guide rings to keep the spool centered. The spool insert is sized for most Makerbot ABS filament spools. I added an end plate to stop the spool from working itself off the insert, but my experience so far is that the end plate is probably not needed. If you remix this for spools from other manufacturers, the end plate may come in handy.
The result is a spool that rolls easier and with more stability. It also raises the height of the spool, creating additional clearance underneath.
This should be adaptable to any manufacturer's spool by adjusting the dimensions of the insert.
