Someone on Reddit was looking for something like this and I thought it a fun challenge to design.
Print Instructions
- Designed for 0.2mm layer height with a 0.5 nozzle width or lower.
- I printed mine on a 0.5mm nozzle at 0.2mm.
- Min 3 top layers - Exactly 2 perimeters.
- Any fewer top layers and the quality may suffer due to infill.
- Any more perimeters and the surface detail may be lost.
- 15% infill.
- I printed this in PLA. PETG should work, but may be a little sticky for the joints.
- No supports needed (other than one that's built into the model).
- As the top face is the display side, it's useful to have your extrusion rate pretty dialed in, otherwise the face can get messy. I had some luck with ironing, but that also benefits from a dialed extrusion rate.
Assembly Instructions
- Print.
- Remove the supports from the Boot and Back components.
- They should come off easily with hand pressure pulling on the square tab at the base of the support. Try to be gentle.
- Assemble components onto the back plate (see pictures)
- Align the front-plate holes with the back plate pins and press closed firmly.
- The press fit is quite tight, may benefit from some slight trimming of any seams on the back plate pins.
- Can be attached to the wall with 3M Command Strips.
I recently remixed this as a magnetic key holder which includes many improvements. You can find that here.
