Astro-Cineroc

(or CineCam…or AstroCine…let's work on a catchy name)

This one is for you Cineroc Fans out there.  That classic look becomes a functional adapter for the Estes Astrocam or even an lesser quality (cheep) camera off of eBay.  (but the Astrocam is actually the better value in the end)

Note: The cheap camera will only work on the internal mounting shell.

I print the parts at .2mm no infill and the camera shells do require supports (see the examples below)

The External mount option allows you to quickly attach and detach the camera to the payload section and is pretty secure but you may want to add a small strip of tape or a rubber band to secure it further.

You will need a 6.5" length of 6-32 all thread - but you don't have to if you're comfortable with using tape to hold the body together. You can use an actual 6-32 nut if you want, but I wanted something bulkier and easily tighten by hand, so I made the thumb nob.

The camers shell section can be separated into 3 parts so you can print the yellow seen in the rendering below.  This aids in giving you that classic Cineroc look.

Version 3 UPDATE

So there was a request to make the main shell walls thicker and I also took this time to improve the Astrocam external mount using my ‘slipper’ design where the Astrocam just securely snaps into place.  So there is a complete section with just the V3 parts in it.

I also drove the shroud line hole downward into the nose cone instead of horizontally as there were concerns the horizontal hole might break against the print grain.

There is also a new space in the bottom section for a PerfectFlite Firefly  or FlightSketch Mini

I've also included the STEP file for the V3 design so you can easily tweak it to your needs.

The Shells need support, use the Prusa Slicer's paint function.

USB Caps

The cameras benefit from an end cap that covers the USB port and will help the camera stay in place.  There is one for the Astrocam and one for the cheap eBay camera.   The little notch faces outwards and exposes the recording LED so you know what's happening.
