A Cycloidal gear is an unusual gear that uses the cycloidal movement of a plate to reduce the gear ratio. I think this one is 64 to 1 (but it was a while ago so I might be mistaken).
A very fun project that builds in flat pieces, so it's pretty hard to get wrong.
FreeCAD
This project was designed in a recent daily build of FreeCAD being run linux. The FreeCAD project is rapidly evolving into a powerful, stable, extensible, multi-platform, CAD tool that is freely available to anyone with an interest.
Almost all of the reviews currently available of FreeCAD are dated and focus on problems that are long solved. To see a deep dive comparison of FreeCAD vs SolidWorks, check out "Joko Engineeringhelp" YouTube channel. He has fantastic comparisons of FreeCAD / SolidWorks / OnShape. He also does some deep dives into FreeCAD and SolidWorks comparing their finite element analysis features and more. His videos are dense with information and detail. All of the resource needed to learn FreeCAD to an excellent level is available on YouTube and other sites.
If you are interested in a powerful, open, cross-platform, CAD application, FreeCAD is the only choice. What's more, it's a viable choice.
For current information on FreeCAD, visit the web site and consider participating in the forum.
