A sharp knife is safer than a dull one, but scalpels still scare the stuffing out of me. I mean, I'm not opposed to using them, but the swiftness with which they can make unexpected incisions can be alarming.

So I made a cover for a Swann-Morton #3 Scalpel. To make sure the only time I can look forward to seeing my own blood is when I'm using it, not reaching for it.

The design is admittedly rather bulky, but it feels nice and holds onto the handle securely. I lifted the retention mechanism from the user "pario" over on Thingiverse. It used a simple spring that was quite effective when I tested it. That design might be better for you if you prefer something a bit more svelte.

There's a small 1mm x 1mm block on the outside end of the spring that has to be cut away for it to work.

Print instructions

I printed in PETG, without supports and it came out really well. I printed it oriented like you see in the images from the CAD software.
